(holy cow!) since my last writing update, here are some articles that I’ve

these were written for the blog from a company called Biotics Research. There’s
no byline, but I am the author. I’ve written about most of these topics here on
my own blog in the past, but these are more succinct and might also include
links to more recent research. They are intended for medical and nutrition
professionals but I think they’re “plain English” enough for anyone to be able
to understand and learn from. in-person event dedicated to low-carb and keto diets? Have you wanted to go to
one of these things in the past but the time and expense required has been out
of your reach? I have the perfect thing for you: the Adapt Your Life events
happening in February! Come meet me in person – I’d love to see you!</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: 13pt;">Adapt
events are a great alternative to the large, multi-day conferences that cost
several hundred dollars just for registration, plus the cost of airfare, lodging,
meals, and more. <i>Yikes!</i> The money and logistics make those bigger events
impractical for many of us, not to mention they can be just plain overwhelming
due to the sheer number of attendees and the amount of “stuff” going on.</span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="tab-stops: 185.45pt;"><span style="font-size: 13pt;">The
Adapt events are just one day, but we pack a lot of learning and fun into that
one day. Each event features keto-oriented medical and nutrition professionals from
the local area, inspiring success stories (often <i>tearjerking </i><span style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic;">success stories as well!)</span>, plus an
educational workshop from the one and only Dr. Eric Westman, my co-author on
the book <i><a href="https://www.amazon.com/End-Your-Carb-Confusion-Customize/dp/1628604298?&linkCode=ll1&tag=tuitnutr-20&linkId=a74f30f364fcf17865b4808703464f42&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl" target="_blank">End Your Carb Confusion</a> </i>and creator of the famous <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/p/page-4-keto-fat-loss.html" target="_blank">“Page 4 Diet.”</a></span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="tab-stops: 185.45pt;"><span style="font-size: 13pt;">You
can fly in from far away if you choose to, but our events are designed to
connect neighbors with each other and to cultivate the local low-carb communities.
We know some of you are the only ones in your household or friend and family
groups eating low-carb, so it’s nice if you can meet some other people nearby
who are doing it, too. People typically drive in from close by or just a few
hours away and either arrive the morning of the event or choose to stay nearby
the night before. (If you’re driving in from a few hours away, I recommend
coming in the night before because things usually get started around 8:30 a.m.
or so.)</span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13pt;">As of this writing, we have
the green-light from all three venues. If that should change due to COVID restrictions,
I will post again to let everyone know, but if you purchase tickets, Adapt Your

masks and the venues may have distancing protocols in place, so please be aware
that unless anything changes prior to those dates in February, you will be
expected to wear a mask. (And wear it properly, as in, actually over your nose
and mouth.) </span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13pt;"><i>I hope to see you there!</i></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">Indeed, despite the desert
this blog has become with respect to new posts that reflect my penchant for
encyclopedic deep-dives into various topics, I am alive and well, and <i>still
writing</i>. It’s just that most of my writing is for other people at the moment.
I assume that some of you follow me on social media and subscribe to my YouTube
channel, but I figured it was time to give everyone an update on where to find
me and also provide some links to articles I’ve written that might be of
interest.</span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">First, my main social media
presence is on Twitter. You can find me here: <a href="https://twitter.com/TuitNutrition" target="_blank">@TuitNutrition</a>.</span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">I also have a YouTube
channel, which is where most of my new content is now that I (sadly) am hardly
ever blogging. (I <i>do </i>intend to get back to writing for my own site, even just once in a while, but past experience has shown me that I should not guarantee you that.) Check out my videos here: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmDz-SYYhoerycynsCm7L8g/videos" target="_blank">Tuit Nutrition on YouTube</a>. I try to post a new video at least once a week, and occasionally
twice a week.</span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">If you’re new around here, be
sure to <a href="https://mailchi.mp/e9f1a96eba01/tuitnutrition" target="_blank">sign up for my mailing list</a> so that you don’t miss announcements of upcoming speaking
engagements, new projects I have coming up, plus product recommendations, book
reviews, and more. (Hint, hint: if you wish someone would help you make sense
of cholesterol and lipids on keto, I’ll have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT coming about
that later this fall.) <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.0pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 15.0pt;">Writing!<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13pt;">Most of my outside writing is
now done for Biotics (a professional line of supplements) and Keto Chow
(producer of keto-friendly meal replacement shakes that I actually endorse and
think are the real deal). Keto Chow gives me a byline (crediting me as the
author) but Biotics does not. Take my word for it – if I’m posting a link here,
I wrote the article. The articles for Biotics are intended mostly for medical
and nutrition professionals, BUT, I know my blog audience is very savvy and you
will have no trouble understanding any of them. In fact, if you like the
educational nature of my blog posts (back when I was actually posting some), you will probably <i>especially</i> like the Biotics articles because
they are fully referenced with links to supporting scientific literature that
you might want to dive into if you are so inclined. The Keto Chow articles are
also fully referenced, but they’re written more for the general
public/laypeople and are a bit more casual in tone. I feel fortunate that I get to do
both kinds of writing and “keep the lights on,” as they say. <i>Woohoo!</i> </span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">Here’s a selection of the
articles I’ve written that might be of interest to my readers.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

a patient’s plain English guide to proper thyroid testing and treatment. (Not

loss stalled on keto? About ready to give up? I have just the thing for you!</span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span face=""Calibri Light",sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">I
get it. You're counting macros. You're weighing and measuring your food. You're
intermittent fasting. You're watching every video, reading every blog post, and
listening to every podcast you can get your hands on about keto – but you're
more confused than ever. You have information coming at you from all sides, and
you're still not getting the results you want! <o:p></o:p></span></p><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i><span face=""Calibri Light",sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">Are
you tired of this?</span></i><span face=""Calibri Light", sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">
Tired of all the tracking, the apps and spreadsheets, watching the clock,
testing your ketones, and sucking all the joy out of eating?!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span face=""Calibri Light", sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">If
I've just described you, and you want to get back to basics—to simplify your
keto diet but </span><i style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;">actually have it work the way you want it to</i><span face=""Calibri Light", sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">, then </span><a href="https://adaptyourlifeacademy.com/the-stall-slayer/" style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;" target="_blank">The Stall Slayer Masterclass</a><span face=""Calibri Light", sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;"> is for YOU!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span face=""Calibri Light", sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">The
course is based on my book, </span><a href="http://stallslayer.com/" style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;" target="_blank">The Stall Slayer</a><span face=""Calibri Light", sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">,
but dives a little deeper into all the factors I wrote about. Plus, in addition
to 12 video lessons in which I personally walk you through everything, the
course provides 3 weeks of dedicated support in a private, student-only
Facebook group where I'll be available to answer questions, encourage and
cheerlead, and help troubleshoot when needed. On top of all that, there will be
one LIVE video Q&A session with me for each of those 3 weeks. So if you
already have the book and want to interact a little more with me and hear the
information presented in a different way, this class is a great way to do that.
And if you haven't read the book yet, guess what? Your student resources
include the entire 198-page e-book! That’s right – if you sign up for the
class, the pdf version of the book itself is included.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span face=""Calibri Light",sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;">If
you don’t use Facebook, no problem! Facebook isn’t required for the course. All
the course content—the video lessons, pdf resources, transcripts, etc.—is contained
in a password-protected student portal website that you can access anytime,
even for a few months after you’ve finished the course. (So you can watch the
videos as many times as you want.) The live video sessions will be done through
FB but they will also be sent out via email the following day so you will NOT
miss any of those sessions if you don’t use FB. The extra benefit of being in
the private group is that you can interact with others who are doing the
course, to get ideas, encouragement, and tips from each other. You can also ask
me questions there, but if you don’t use FB, I will also be available by email to
answer your questions and my team will be there to help with any tech
troubleshooting. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span face=""Calibri Light", sans-serif" style="font-size: 13pt;"><a href="https://adaptyourlifeacademy.com/the-stall-slayer/" target="_blank">Get on the wait list NOW</a>, because you'll want to be notified as soon as sales open
up. Plus, by signing up ASAP, you'll get my email series with some tips and strategies
for breaking fat loss stalls even before the course starts. You are under
absolutely NO OBLIGATION to buy the course if you join the wait list, so you
have ZERO financial commitment here. There will be a limited period of time
during which you can purchase the course (last week of March), but once you purchase,
you can start the course and it’s entirely self-paced so you can do it in your
own time.</span></p>

every meal into a complex math assignment, this course is for you. If you want
straight-talk about this way of eating, in plain English with no scientific
gobbledygook that you need a dictionary to make sense of, this course is for
you. (Did I mention this course is for YOU?!)</span></b></p>

mechanisms and overlapping biochemical pathways that govern the systemic
regulation that determines those levels. We assign way too much meaning to
single measurements taken at single points in time rather than looking at

It’s ridiculous.</span><span style="font-size: 15pt;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 15pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;">Allow me to tell
you a story. Sometime in the early 1980s, when I was a little girl, my family
took a trip to Disney World in Florida one winter. We lived in New York, so
Florida was a way for me and my sister to see Disney World <i>and</i> for us to
spend a few days away from the freezing cold and bask in the warmth of the
Sunshine State. Well, a freak cold front happened while we were there. Yes, a
freak, unexpected cold snap in Florida. Sea World was <i>closed</i> because
some of the water was frozen. We had to buy winter coats down there, because
who packs winter coats to go on vacation in Florida?</span><span style="font-size: 15pt;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 15pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;">Imagine if we knew
nothing about Florida and based our assessment of Florida’s <i>climate</i> on
the short-term <i>weather</i> of those few days. We would have assumed Florida
was a bitterly cold place, rather than the hot, steamy swamp it usually is. The
lesson here is, don’t mistake an <i>acute</i> occurrence for a general pattern,
trend, or tendency.</span><span style="font-size: 15pt;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b><i><span style="font-size: 15pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;">What does

weight? Sure, lower blood sugar, lower blood pressure, remission of migraines,
disappearance of hypoglycemia and brain </span><span style="font-size: 13pt;">fog, and total resolution of acid

low-carb way of eating is used for just one thing: weight loss. And no doubt,

amazing. But low-carb and ketogenic diets are good for <i>so many other things</i>
besides changing the size of your body. Some of these—like lower blood sugar,
lower triglycerides, and lower blood pressure—can be shared via pictures of
glucometers, home blood pressure cuffs, or printouts of your latest bloodwork.

in person have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation. The good news,
though, is that many of them are going fully virtual, so you can still watch
presentations from some of the world’s leading keto researchers and clinicians,
and some of them even include <i>LIVE</i> Q&A sessions where you can
interact in real time with the speakers. So with that in mind, I want to tell
you about two such events that I’m presenting at, both of which have a live
Q&A component.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;">Keep in mind that because these events are virtual, registration
is practically a STEAL! </span><i style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;">Much</i><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;"> more affordable than when you have to not
only register, but also buy a plane ticket, pay for lodging, and pay for meals
away from home, Uber or car rental, etc. Ticket prices are WAY lower than
normal because the organizers don’t have to recoup many, many thousands of
dollars they would normally have had to spend to rent a physical
venue/conference space. </span><i style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;"><b>Do not miss these events at these incredible bargain
prices.</b></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;">And of course, since they’re virtual, you can participate from the
comfort of your own home, in your pajamas! Why </span><i style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;">wouldn’t</i><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;"> you grab
tickets?</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Calibri Light", sans-serif; font-size: 13pt;">We won’t be meeting in person in San Diego this year, but you can
still be a part of this annual event from Low Carb USA. I’ll be presenting on
ketogenic therapies for neurodegenerative disorders. If you’re familiar with my
work on Alzheimer’s disease, this talk will review some of that basic
foundation and then explore surprising similarities with Parkinson’s disease,
multiple </span>sclerosis, and more -- including the rationale for why a ketogenic diet and other ketogenic strategies might be worth looking into for anyone living with these kinds of conditions. There will be a live Q&A right after my talk, so <a href="https://www.lowcarbusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Speaker-Schedule-SD-2020-1.pdf" target="_blank">check the schedule</a> to make sure you don't miss it. electronic versions, you can now order a <i>paperback copy</i> of <i>The Stall
Slayer </i>from Amazon. And not just in the US – it’s available in many other
nations. Check your local Amazon site to see if it’s available where you live.
I’ve already had some fans buy it in Japan, Brazil, the UK, Canada, and the
Netherlands. (If you happen to be reading this in the Netherlands, I think you
have to order from the German site…<a href="https://www.amazon.de/Stall-Slayer-Seven-Roadblocks-English-ebook/dp/B08BYXN7JN/" target="_blank">amazon.de</a>.)

to pinch myself to make sure I’m actually alive and awake and this isn’t a
dream. (I’ve been reading Dr. Westman</span><span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 17.3333px;">’</span><span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">s published research for about 15 years,
and now I’m writing a book with him. <i>Whaaaat?! </i>The world is a
strange, beautiful place, my friends.)<br />
<br />
The book is tentatively titled <b><i>End Your Carb Confusion</i></b>, but
that is subject to change. We have an estimated release date of early December
2020, which is right around the corner. (Insert head exploding emoji.) We’re in
the editing stage right now. Thank goodness, our publisher seems pretty happy
with it and their suggestions are mostly related to grammar and structure
rather than the content. <br />
<br />
What is <i>End Your Carb Confusion</i> about? It’s a guide to finding
your own carb tolerance and building your diet from there. <i>*Gasp!*
What?! Not everyone needs extra-strict keto for their entire lifetime? </i>Nope!
This book will help people figure out where they fall on the carb tolerance
spectrum, and how to move from one level to another -- i.e., how to INCREASE
your carb intake safely and logically, if you want to. (Everyone <i>can</i> do
keto for life; not everyone <i>needs</i> to. There IS room in life
for more fruit, beans, starches, and other higher carb foods if they’re
appropriate for you. Our book will teach you how to navigate it all.) <o:p></o:p></span></div>

who’s living with all kinds of health issues that would respond well to keto
but who feels totally overwhelmed (or turned off) by <a href="https://youtu.be/4e6LSFkIZ9k" target="_blank">the nuttiness and zealotry</a> they see
about this way of eating on the interwebs. It’s written in very
layperson-friendly plain English -- no intense scientific gobbledygook that you
need a PhD to understand -- and I know, because I wrote it!<br />

$5/month, you get exclusive videos that are for patrons only and not for
my public YouTube channel. (They’re shorter and a bit more ranty and free-form
than my public videos. These videos are a place for me to vent about the <a href="https://youtu.be/4e6LSFkIZ9k" target="_blank">craziness I see going on</a> the keto world these days, but even more, they’re a place for me
to think out loud and share with you various issues I’m tossing around in my
head and trying to get a good perspective on.)<br />
<br />
For $10/month and up, you get a monthly research review, in which I discuss in
detail 2-4 scientific papers I’ve read that month. They’re always health- and nutrition-focused, but not always specifically about ketogenic diets. If you want to get
your science on, that level is for you! A bit geekier than my public videos,
but I try to keep things layperson-friendly to accommodate all who might
be watching.<br />
<br />
<b>For a very generous $30/month, you get a weekly group
Zoom call with me – ask me anything! </b>(Well not <i>anything</i>.
Do try to keep it related to keto/low-carb, health and nutrition, food,
physiology, biochemistry, etc.) Keto Q&A, tips for eating this way
long-term, and whatever else comes up in the conversation. My audience is very
savvy, so you get to benefit from listening to everyone on these calls, not
just from me. Ask questions or just listen quietly while the rest of us “think
out loud.” Participate as much or as little as you like. At this level of
support, you’ll get an hour with me each week – <i>much cheaper than a single
one-hour consultation!</i><br />

for sticking with me, everyone. I know that my actions don’t reflect what I’ve
been <i>saying</i> for a while: that writing is my first love and always will
be. (Then again, I did just finish writing <i>two </i>books…) Anyway, it was
never my intent to abandon the blog. I guess I just started to get a little
intimidated by my own blog style – sharing every detail about a topic and exploring
every possible nuance to the point that blog posts could take several days to write (in addition to the time spent researching). I’ll have to go a little easier if I’m going to write more
often. Making videos is so much quicker – I can get information out a lot faster
when I talk than when I type. (It also seems that many more people prefer to watch videos these days rather than reading blog posts, so I can reach a larger audience with videos.) When it’s been a while since there’s been a
new blog post, I welcome you to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmDz-SYYhoerycynsCm7L8g/videos" target="_blank">check out my videos</a>, but I also vow to not let it be quite so long between blog

the Triangle area of NC, check us out: <a href="https://www.ficklecreekfarm.com/" target="_blank">Fickle Creek Farm</a>.</b> We do beef, pork,
lamb, poultry, eggs, and produce. We’re normally at several area farmers’
markets, but with the virus situation right now, you can pre-order for on-farm
pickup, and there are some drop-off/delivery points, too. You might get a dozen eggs that <i>I </i>gathered or washed, or some
lettuce, cilantro, tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, peppers, or squash that <i>I</i> planted,
weeded, tended, and harvested! The work is absolutely backbreaking and
exhausting (especially in the heat of a southern summer), but it’s also satisfying
and fulfilling in a way that sedentary work in front of a computer isn’t. (They
both have their place in my life, though.) Here’s a video I did a while back talking
about working on the farm: <a href="https://youtu.be/HVtbltzGPU0" target="_blank">Dispatch from the Farm</a>. (That was way back from last October. I had only been working
there for a few weeks at that time. I’ve learned so much more since then…and lost
a couple thousand buckets’ worth of sweat, if you must know. Also: a few educational
and painful encounters with fire ants! Fun, fun, fun.) If you’re in the area, definitely

<span style="color: #241e12; font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">As you can see, it’s called <em><span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The Stall Slayer</span></em>, and in case the title doesn’t make
it abundantly clear, it’s about breaking fat loss stalls on ketogenic/low-carb
diets. This is the most common reason people write to me for help – “Why am I
not losing weight?” So, rather than write out the same email reply eighty-six
thousand times (just kidding...not quite <em><span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">that</span></em> many people have written to me), I decided to put
it all in a book. But if you’ve been reading my blog for a while and you know I
tend to over-deliver information (for better or worse), then you probably
already figure the book is chock-full of helpful information that goes far
beyond roadblocks to fat loss and what to do about them. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

education on SIMPLIFYING things and doing what I've come to call “keto without

<span style="color: #241e12; font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">I hope to have the book out before the end of the year, but
there’s a chance it won’t be available until January. That’s not a bad thing,
though: considering the avalanche of people who’ll be looking for fat loss tips
after the new year, maybe that’s actually the perfect time. *Shrug.* It’ll be
available as a pdf, plus a Kindle version, and there’ll also be a
print-on-demand option for people like me who still, in 2019 and beyond, prefer
to hold a physical book in our hands – one we can highlight, fold down pages
in, and simply have the tactile sensations that come along with reading a hard
copy. (But remember, if you buy the pdf, you can always print it out at home or have a store like Staples or Office Max print it for you -- much faster! I assume there are similar printing services at office supply stores outside the US as well. [Pro-tip: If you go this route, consider having the store print it in black & white -- much cheaper that way, and even though I <i>love</i> the images in the book, you won't lose anything critical if you don't see them in full color.] ) <o:p></o:p></span></div>

It’s hard to
believe it’s been seven years, but even harder to believe that in all that
time, I’ve completely neglected the topic of polycystic ovarian syndrome
(PCOS). I’ve written a ton about </span><a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2015/09/its-the-insulin-1.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">insulin</span></a><span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">,

This is a glaring omission, because PCOS is a <i>huge</i> issue
for reproductive aged women these days, and, no surprise if I’m writing about
it here, it’s intimately tied to chronic hyperinsulinemia and metabolic
dysregulation. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

written about <i>actual </i>PCOS. I don’t know how such a huge gap has existed on
my blog for so long, but this is being corrected right now. <i>Whew!<o:p></o:p></i></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">I’ve seen online in various places women saying that they’re at
increased risk for type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome because they have
PCOS. It’s actually the other way around: chronically high insulin (basically
metabolic syndrome, whether you know you have it or not) is the main driver of
PCOS. The reason so few women who have PCOS are aware of this is … surprise,
surprise … most doctors are clueless about insulin’s many functions unrelated
to blood sugar and they never bother <i>measuring</i> insulin levels. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">Women with PCOS are often given unhelpful and condescending advice. There is a lot of "blame the victim" that goes on with this condition. I sincerely hope this post does not come off that way. That is the very <i>last </i>thing I intend. I have only one goal here: to provide information. Information that can be empowering to women who have PCOS. If you are living with this condition and you feel disappointed by the help you've gotten from healthcare professionals so far, please know that you can take control. You have more power than you might realize. I hope what follows here is helpful. </span><br>

I’m <a href="https://twitter.com/TuitNutrition" target="_blank">very active on Twitter</a> and I’ve
been posting videos on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmDz-SYYhoerycynsCm7L8g/videos" target="_blank">my YouTube channel</a>, but the blog, sadly, has been collecting dust. This is a shame for
two reasons: <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Calibri Light",sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">First, even though I seem to be reaching more people with my
tweets and videos, writing is, always has been, and likely always will be my
first love. I consider myself a writer first and a nutritionist second. I truly
<i>like</i> writing, and the beauty of writing my own blog, as opposed to some
of the paid “day gig” writing I do to keep my bills paid, is that I get to
write about whatever <i>I</i> want to write about, and say things the way I
want to say them. I don’t have to answer to anyone, censor myself, or present
things in a certain light in order to fit in with someone else’s “message” or
brand. Tuit Nutrition is me. My voice, my perspective, and yes, my sarcasm and
snark. I start to feel not-so-good when it’s been awhile since I’ve written
anything substantial on the blog—<a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2019/01/personal-fat-threshold.html" target="_blank">something I think is truly educational</a> and helpful for people navigating the crazy
world of low carb & keto. Sharing little snippets of this & that on
Twitter is great, and I’ve made some important professional connections there,
but my blog is where I can really get deeper into things. Write something meaty,
something detailed, <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2014/11/metabolic-theory-cancer-intro.html" target="_blank">something to make people <i>think</i></a>. When I hit <i>publish</i> on that kind of
post, I feel a sense of satisfaction and purpose that I rarely ever experience
otherwise.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Calibri Light",sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The second reason it’s a shame I’m not blogging regularly is that
I know many of you prefer to read, and even though you can <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmDz-SYYhoerycynsCm7L8g/videos" target="_blank">hop over to YouTube</a> anytime and watch me talk about any number of keto-related
issues, you’d prefer to wait for the next written post. Frankly, my dear
readers, <i>I don’t blame you!</i> I, too, prefer reading, and long posts don’t
scare me away. My attention span hasn’t yet been decimated to the point that anything
longer than a 15-second read gets passed over in favor of a meme with a
whopping 4 words on it. (Not that there’s anything wrong with funny memes.) My
point is, I know some of you enjoy reading my posts as much as I enjoy writing
them, and I feel bad leaving you without something to dig into for such long
periods of time. (And I <i>love </i>hearing from those of you who’ve told me
you don’t mind my very long posts. Some of you actually <i>like</i> immersing yourself
in something a bit more substantial. In that case, we’re a perfect fit.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Calibri Light",sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">With this in mind, I’m committing to blogging a little more
regularly than I have been in the last year or so. I won’t commit to once a
week because I know myself too well, and I just won’t be able to keep up that pace.
But twice a month? I think that can work. And I can’t promise every post will
be something of great substance (in fact, I can promise some posts <i>won’t</i>),
but I think just getting back in the habit of writing regularly <i>at all</i>
will be a good move for me.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

be talking about mechanisms behind <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">why</i>

beneficial for these conditions. I mean, weight loss? Sure. Diabetes? <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Old news. </i>Tell me something I <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">don’t </i>know, right? How about
physiological and biochemical reasons why keto is a stunningly <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">logical and rational</i> thing to try for
anyone dealing with these difficult-to-treat issues? </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>

benefits of low carb: fat loss, reducing or stopping their meds for T2 diabetes, total resolution
of acid reflux/GERD, reductions in chronic pain and fatigue, improved GI

successfully implementing keto/LCHF. <a href="https://healclinics.com/about/#team" target="_blank">Dr. Westman is the Chief Medical Officer, and his right-hand woman, the Director of Clinical Protocol, is Jackie Eberstein, RN</a>—Jackie was the head nurse at Dr. Atkins’ clinic in NYC for
almost 30 years and she was actually one of Dr. Westman’s teachers! (What, you

If you’re taking certain medications for diabetes, you will need to be seen by
one of their medical providers in person to get started. (After the initial
in-person visit, follow-ups can be done remotely, I think.) Right now, they
have clinics in North Carolina and Virginia, but will be expanding into more
states over time. (Note: this doesn't mean you have to live in NC or VA to be a HEAL patient, but you <i>would</i> have to travel there for your first visit.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

If you want to make trustworthy, safe, reliable, and <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">effective</i> keto-oriented healthcare and coaching available to as
many people as possible—so they don’t have to face the criticism, naysaying,

<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">The investment is just that: an <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">investment</i>. It’s not a donation, like it
is with a Kickstarter or some other form of fundraising. You will actually <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><a href="https://healclinics.com/investors-opo/?ref=OPO" target="_blank">own stock in the company</a></i>.</b>
And the sad truth is, <a href="https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/11/181128115045.htm" target="_blank">with 88% of Americans being metabolically unhealthy</a>, reversing illnesses that are
entirely or to a great extent driven by diet is a damn wise thing to invest in.
We are awash in a tsunami of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, PCOS,
Alzheimer’s disease, fatty liver, and other conditions caused or exacerbated by
chronic hyperinsulinemia. Keto can go a long way to completely reversing these,
or at least having some degree of beneficial impact. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

people—and so that Dr. Westman and Jackie can train <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">more </i>doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other
medical professionals so that this kind of care can be available to as many
people as possible, <a href="https://healclinics.com/investors-opo/?ref=OPO" target="_blank">consider investing</a> if you have the means. And if you’re not in a position to invest,

<span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">If you’ve been around the low carb and keto communities for a while,
you might’ve run across the term “ApoE4.” ApoE4 is a gene that increases risk
for cardiovascular disease and even more so for Alzheimer’s disease. In fact,
if you’re homozygous for ApoE4 (meaning that you have 2 copies of the gene),
you have between a 50-90% chance of developing Alzheimer’s. <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">YIKES!</i> That is not something to take lightly,
so what’s the deal here? What is ApoE4 and why does it make people so much more
susceptible to this frightening form of cognitive decline & impairment? And what are the implications for people following low-carb, high-fat diets? ApoE4 carriers are often cautioned to go lower in dietary saturated fat, but <i>why?</i> Is this truly warranted? Do you have to give up your beloved butter & cheese if you're E4? <o:p></o:p></span></div>

cover the basics on what the gene is (it codes for the epsilon-4 [</span><span style="font-size: 13.0pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;">ε</span><span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">4] variant of

<span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.0pt;">Most of what I know about ApoE4 is in relation to Alzheimer’s,

a nutritional intervention for Alzheimer’s and other forms of cognitive impairment. (Didja know they regularly call Alzheimer's "type 3 diabetes" or "brain insulin resistance?" Now you know why it might be wise to adopt such a dietary approach to support healthy cognitive function.) But I would say that even if you <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">don’t </i>have
any ApoE4 genes (the other forms are ApoE2 and ApoE3), or you’re not concerned
about Alzheimer’s disease, I encourage you to watch the video anyway, because

information in the video that applies to everyone, regardless of your genetics.

<span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt;">It’s been <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">ages</i> since I’ve posted what I would call a “real” blog post. Something meaty and educational. Something you can really sink your teeth into. The last one was way back in August, when I wrote about <span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2018/08/protein-and-kidneys.html" target="_blank">whether protein is bad for the kidneys</a></span>. (Hint: it’s not.) I’ve posted a few things since then, but nothing all that substantial. I’m glad to say today’s post makes up for lost time, because it is LONG. So grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea (<span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2018/04/awesome-cuts-pigs-feet.html" target="_blank">or...*gag*...broth, if you must</a></span>), put your phone on silent, and dig in. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt;">I’m excited to share this with you. So excited, in fact, that I’ve been procrastinating on writing this for no less than 6 months. In looking at the folder of blog post drafts on my computer, I started jotting down notes for this in July 2018. The reason I kept putting it off is that I knew this was going to be a LONG post—massively long, even for me. But then I gave a talk on this topic at <span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="https://keto-retreat.ca/" target="_blank">a keto event in Canada</a></span> in December, so I finally had to organize my thoughts and put them together coherently. Once that was done, I figured it would be easier to get this written, since I could just flesh out the details of what was on the slides. Don’t kid yourselves, though. This still took four days to write and edit. (It’s much faster to talk and show images on slides than it is to type everything out in detail in a blog post!) Nevertheless, I’ve wanted to write this for a long time, so here we finally are. And the benefits a blog post has over a talk is that you can read this at your leisure, click on whatever links you’d like to explore further, and go as deeply down any of those rabbit holes as your heart desires. And to any of you who are <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">happy </i>at such a long post and who prefer reading to watching videos, <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">I’m with you</i>. <span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmDz-SYYhoerycynsCm7L8g/videos" target="_blank">I started my YouTube channel</a></span> to bring my message of <b>Keto Without the Crazy™</b> to a wider audience, but I, myself, prefer reading.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

The reason they call it “commencement” when you graduate with a degree in something is that it’s the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">start</i> of your education, rather than the end of it. This has certainly proven true for me since getting my M.S. in nutrition. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "calibri light" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt;">One of the most intriguing things I’ve come across recently is the concept of the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">personal fat threshold</i>. I don’t know who first coined this term, but it appears to have been Roy Taylor and Rury Holman, in their 2015 paper, <span class="MsoHyperlink"><a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25515001" target="_blank">Normal weight individuals who develop type 2 diabetes: the personal fat threshold</a></span>. Other researchers wrote about the concept long before this paper, but I think Taylor & Holman were the first to use the phrase <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">personal fat threshold</i>. (Their paper is the first place I ever saw it in print, anyway. A researcher named Keith Frayn wrote some outstanding papers on the same topic years before without using the term. I cite his work liberally throughout this post. If you’d like to read the full text of any of the key papers I cite here, feel free to email me and I’ll send you a copy.)</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">First, I spoke at <a href="https://www.westonaprice.org/about-us/about-the-foundation/" target="_blank">the Weston A. the president of the foundation asked me to give the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">same talk</i> again this year. Nice!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">I also gave two talks at a
keto event in Kingston, Ontario. If you’re in Canada and you’d like to find out
when more such events will be taking place in your beautiful country, check out
<a href="https://keto-retreat.ca/" target="_blank">https://keto-retreat.ca/</a><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>(They also <a href="https://www.facebook.com/kingstonketoretreat/" target="_blank">have a Facebook page</a>
where you can get updates.) Videos of both talks will be available soon, and I’ll
let you know when they are. One of them was on the concept of <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25515001" target="_blank">the personal fat threshold</a>,
and the other was a talk unlike any I’d ever given before. In fact, I think it
was unlike any talk <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">anyone</i> has ever
given in the keto community. I opened a conversation that is long overdue and
brought up some issues I’d love to see us all talking more about. I’ll leave it
at that until the video is available to the public and will explain more when
the link is live and I can share it. I’m excited to see what you’ll think of it.
Like I said, a talk unlike any I’m aware of in 15 years of following a low carb
diet. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">About the move…<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">I moved three and a half
hours south, from Fredericksburg, VA, to Durham, NC. I’ve been crashing at a
friend’s place while I buy furniture and get things settled, because in all the
previous places I’d lived in the DC metro area since 2009, I always rented
furnished places, so until recently, I owned <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">zero </i>furniture. (Unless <a href="https://www.squattypotty.com/" target="_blank">a Squatty Potty</a> counts!) Owing to this furniture deficiency and the travel, I’ve
been living out of a duffel bag for almost a month. Eek! Even though I was
living in Virginia for the past 9 years, now that I’m in North Carolina, I’m
definitely in <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">The South™.</i> I’m already
a natural at saying “Bless their hearts,” and I look forward to making homemade
pimento cheese, because <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">man</i>, that stuff
is <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">gooood</i>. (It’s basically keto as
is, except if you read labels, many of the prepared ones you can buy at the
supermarket have added sugar. It would be delicious without any sweetening at
all, but for those who like a hint of sweetness to it, a pinch of Splenda, Swerve,
or your low-carb sweetener of choice would mix in just fine. What? Artificial sweeteners?
<a href="https://youtu.be/pqUSCr_FdD4" target="_blank">Yes. Yes, I use them</a>. I’ve been
using them for 18 years and I’m not dead yet. <s>But maybe tomorrow.</s>)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">To pass the time until I post
something more substantial, I wanted to share two more videos with you. <a href="https://youtu.be/f-A2rIA2OTE" target="_blank">One was an interview with me about Alzheimer’s</a>
recorded at <a href="https://www.uhcl.edu/low-carb-houston/" target="_blank">Low Carb Houston</a>.
Many of you reading out there have probably already watched some of my other Alz
videos (and maybe you’ve even <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Alzheimers-Antidote-Low-Carb-High-Fat-Cognitive/dp/1603587098/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=tuitnutr-20&linkId=788e242080822b35c98c8cbd5bc78e97&language=en_US" target="_blank">checked out my book</a>). If you’re new to the concept of Alzheimer’s as “type 3
diabetes” or “brain insulin resistance,” this new one is highly recommended.
And it’s recommended even if you <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">have</i>
already seen some of the other videos. This one is only 25 minutes long, and
thanks to the good questions the interviewer asked, we covered a lot of educational
information in that time. <a href="https://youtu.be/f-A2rIA2OTE" target="_blank">Here’s the link</a>.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">Toward the very end, I buck
the keto police and explain that not everyone needs to be on a medically
therapeutic ketogenic diet. We can’t deny the millions (billions?) of healthy
people around the world who age gracefully and with their cognitive faculties
intact who <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">do not</i> follow ketogenic
diets. They eat fruit, they eat beans, they even … <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">*gasp!*</i> … eat grains. So no, a strict keto diet is <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">not</i> the only way to be healthy and
maintain a body weight you’re happy with. (I have to find a new way to talk
about weight, because I’d rather not use the phrases “healthy body weight” or “normal
body weight.” I know people who are heavy and healthy, and people who are thin
and quite sick. [In fact, this is <a href="https://youtu.be/K9yNOBXBxVc" target="_blank">exactly what the personal fat threshold is all about</a>.] And who the heck gets to decide what a “normal” weight is, anyway? Certainly not me!) Yes, you <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">can</i> stick to 20g of carbs a day for the
rest of your life if you enjoy that and it works for you. But many people have
a higher carb tolerance than that. And not only can they “tolerate” more carbs,
but they might actually <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">feel better</i>, physically
and mentally/emotionally, with a bit more carbs in their diet. (<a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2016/12/ketogenic-diet-rant.html" target="_blank">Read this old favorite post</a> for more on this. And here’s a video from my new YouTube
channel on <a href="https://youtu.be/w9F-tP-WXds" target="_blank">the topic of keto police in general</a>.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">I’ve gotta say, I think <a href="https://youtu.be/f-A2rIA2OTE" target="_blank">I look pretty good here</a>! I should wear
bold makeup more often! (I would like to; the fact is, I’m usually just too
lazy to take the time to apply it before grabbing my purse and heading out the
door. Plus, I never really learned how to apply makeup <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">correctly</i>. I go into Sephora and I honestly have no idea what half
the products are even <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">for, </i>let alone
how to put them on my face without making myself look like a clown, or look 30
years older than I am<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">. </i>Anyone know
any good YouTube makeup tutorial channels for <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">normal people? </i>I’m open to recommendations.) I should also probably
smile more. That’s really the best makeup anyone can wear anyway. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;"><a href="https://youtu.be/yooNuOKsa1Q" target="_blank">The second video I’d like to share</a> is even
shorter (less than 22 minutes), and it’s also about Alzheimer’s. I make a few
short cameo appearances, and there are appearances by some of my favorite Alzheimer’s
researchers, <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4937039/pdf/fnmol-09-00053.pdf" target="_blank">Stephen Cunnane, PhD</a>, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/End-Alzheimers-Program-Prevent-Cognitive/dp/0735216207/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=tuitnutr-20&linkId=1811a81150b63d00085329091b567840&language=en_US" target="_blank">Dale Bredesen, MD</a>, and <a href="https://youtu.be/JJv-hWc98S4" target="_blank">Mary Newport, MD</a>.
I cite and celebrate their work in my book and in every Alz talk I’ve given. The
video is extremely well done and provides a fabulous overview of the metabolic
aspects of Alzheimer’s, the latest research, and the therapeutic potential of
ketogenic diets and exogenous ketones. (<a href="https://youtu.be/yooNuOKsa1Q" target="_blank">Link to the video here</a>.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">About the next “real” post: I
plan my next blog post to be on the topic of the personal fat threshold. There’s

links to relevant research for those of you who’d like to learn more. (Or to verify
that I’m not making this stuff up out of thin air. I try not to do that <s>unless
someone is paying me obscene amounts of money to do so</s>.) I suspect this
post will take a while to write, and if time gets away from me and I’d rather
not go too long without anything new on the blog, I might post a book review or
two. I’ve read several good nutrition books since the last book review post,
and those are usually pretty quick to write. (<a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/search/label/Book%20review" target="_blank">See here for all the book review posts</a>.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

real” again as soon as I can. For the rest of you, though, here’s <a href="https://youtu.be/TpCvF4grZ60" target="_blank">the talk I gave about Alzheimer’s disease at Low Carb Houston</a> just two weeks ago. I had 30 minutes to give a
talk that I normally give in 45-60 minutes, so I had to cut a few things out. (Also
had to speak quickly!) If you want the full version, I covered a little bit
more <a href="https://youtu.be/uzwarr6Dgpw" target="_blank">during a talk at KetoCon</a> back
in June. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">If you’re interested in Alzheimer’s
disease as “type 3 diabetes” or “diabetes of the brain,” I think you’ll find
these talks very educational. Even though <a href="https://youtu.be/TpCvF4grZ60" target="_blank">the Low Carb Houston talk</a> was a little shorter than <a href="https://youtu.be/uzwarr6Dgpw" target="_blank">the one at KetoCon</a>, it was a bit
more in-depth on the science specifically surrounding beta-amyloid. I added in
some aspects that I don’t normally include, because continuing medical
education credits (CMEs) were being offered for the event, so I felt like I
should step things up a bit and include some of the technical details I usually
leave out for an audience that’s mostly laypeople. (Turns out Houston had a big
mix of everyone, so it was fine either way.) If you’re especially interested in
amyloid and why I <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">don’t</i> think it’s a
cause of Alzheimer’s and, in fact, is more likely a <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">protective</i> thing, you’ll want to watch the Houston talk. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">The KetoCon talk includes
some details on cholesterol that I skipped over in Houston due to time
constraints, and also because <a href="https://youtu.be/hCvlvu_Ssw4" target="_blank">Dr. David Diamond</a>, <a href="https://youtu.be/1szD5Oo97Dw" target="_blank">Dr. Nadir Ali</a>, <a href="https://youtu.be/BzTjPuikhQE" target="_blank">Dr. Maryanne Demasi,</a> and <a href="https://youtu.be/LEQjcQj_rwg" target="_blank">Dave Feldman</a> had all spoken before I
did, and they covered cholesterol and statin drugs better than I ever could
have. (Good thing, because it helped that I was able to skip the cholesterol details…freed
up time for looking more closely at amyloid.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">And don’t forget about <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmDz-SYYhoerycynsCm7L8g" target="_blank">my shiny new YouTube channel</a>. I know many of you (me included!) prefer reading to
watching videos, but for those who might enjoy watching me remind people to
keep low carb and keto <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">simple and sane</i>,
please consider checking out the channel. Topics already addressed include an
intro to why<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"> </i>I started the channel, my
personal history & background with low carb, how keto works, and measuring
ketones. Upcoming topics include the Keto Police™, <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2018/10/keto-on-the-go.html" target="_blank">food quality</a>,
<a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2017/07/gluconeogenesis.html" target="_blank">protein (and gluconeogenesis)</a>, <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2017/02/fat-loss-new-perspective.html" target="_blank">weight loss stalls</a>, and <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2017/10/thyroid-intro.html" target="_blank">thyroid function</a>.
(I see probably 2 clients a month who have unrecognized/undiagnosed
hypothyroidism, and it is a major roadblock to fat loss.) If you have a specific
topic you’d like me to address, feel free to suggest it in the comments. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 13pt;">Hey all!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">Busy, busy, busy for the next
few weeks. I’m speaking at <a href="https://www.uhcl.edu/low-carb-houston/" target="_blank">Low Carb Houston</a> this weekend, at <a href="http://conferences.westonaprice.org/" target="_blank">the Wise Traditions conference</a> (from the Weston A. Price Foundation) in mid-November,
and at <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2018/10/keto-retreat-canada.html" target="_blank">the keto event in Ontario on December 1.</a> Yowza! <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">So it might be a few weeks
before I can write more blog posts of substance, but I’ll try to pop in and at
least post <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">something</i> before I get
back to (what I hope are) more meaningful and educational posts. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">In the meantime, I want to
share <a href="https://youtu.be/KongmzoPtJI" target="_blank">a link to a presentation I gave on insulin and chronic hyperinsulinemia</a>. If you enjoyed <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2015/09/its-the-insulin-1.html" target="_blank">my 8-part series on insulin a while back</a> (two more parts coming, by the way!), then I think
you’ll like this video. The primary message is that insulin is much more than
merely a “blood sugar hormone.” Insulin has effects far and wide throughout the
whole body. There’s almost no organ, gland, or tissue system that insulin <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">doesn’t</i> affect in some way, including
the brain. (Hence <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Alzheimers-Antidote-Low-Carb-High-Fat-Cognitive/dp/1603587098/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=tuitnutr-20&linkId=243aa171947a81fb5be66b48d0bba1e9" target="_blank">the book I wrote on Alzheimer’s disease</a>, and the talks I give on <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20421697" target="_blank">“brain insulin resistance.”</a>)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">In this presentation, I talk
about chronically high insulin as a driver of several conditions/disorders not
typically thought of as metabolic in origin. Aside from type 2 diabetes and
obesity (which are so intertwined in some cases that they’ve coined the phrase “diabesity”),
there’s <a href="https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/lchf/is-gout-caused-by-red-meat-or-metabolic-syndrome">gout</a>,
hypertension, <a href="https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/lchf/ketogenic-diet-and-pcos" target="_blank">PCOS</a>, <a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2018/02/insulin-and-mens-health.html" target="_blank">erectile dysfunction</a>, cardiovascular disease, skin tags, <a href="https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/lchf/can-the-ketogenic-diet-help-with-migraines" target="_blank">migraines</a>,
and more. (<a href="https://blog.designsforhealth.com/node/855" target="_blank">Possibly even Parkinson’s disease!</a>)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">I go into detail on hypertension
and gout as two examples of conditions where the underlying cause (high
insulin) is ignored in favor of things that often have little to nothing to do
with how the disease actually develops (sodium in the case of hypertension, and
<a href="http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2018/09/gout-and-insulin.html" target="_blank">red meat in the case of gout</a>). But <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">my
favorite part is when I talk about insulin’s role in directly inhibiting lipolysis—the
breakdown of fat. It explains so elegantly why so many of us had such a very
hard time losing body fat when we were eating all the whole grains we were
advised to consume, along with our skim milk, fat-free yogurt, and other low-
and no-fat carbohydrates, and why things became much easier when we ate in such
a way as to keep our insulin levels low for most of the day.<o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.0pt;">Please forgive the poor sound
quality in the video. This was recorded at an event that was organized by <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">one person</i>, and it was her very first
time organizing something like this. We’re lucky someone did us the favor of
recording it at all! It’s a little bit hard to hear at first, but it gets somewhat
better as the video goes on. Please don’t let that stop you from watching. I
think it’s educational and might give you some new knowledge about the role of
insulin not just in body weight, but in overall health and wellness.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
