I didn't used to be much of a yogurt eater, but I've recently discovered that I love it- (maybe because I never liked that thin, low fat stuff, but now that rich, creamy yogurt is readily available, I realize how much I love it. I think the best yogurt I've had- though I don't find it much- was a creamy yogurt made from buffalo milk).

Anyway, the other staple in my whole food, low carb kitchen is fresh herbs. Depending on the season, things like sage, basil, rosemary, dill, cilantro, thyme....and on and on. Sometimes I have plants growing in pots, or sometimes outside. But I think this has made a real difference in my own cooking; there's nothing like fresh herbs to flavor food! I'm quite addicted to them now. They can even make a simple dish more delicious and elegant.

Lastly, I also love slathering nut butter (unsweetened; only ground nuts)- on my 92% chocolate. Hazelnut is delicious, as well as almond butter (and yes, I also do peanut butter, because it's amazingly delicious with chocolate. Yes. Yes, I do).Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14700340223624525096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4833628955058077617.post-46268825905925207222016-07-31T14:56:09.100-04:002016-07-31T14:56:09.100-04:00For those who enjoy canning, canned hamburger is g...For those who enjoy canning, canned hamburger is great to have on hand. I've found I have to add a bit more fat when I'm heating it up (it's hard to keep the fat in meat with home canning), but it's a great convenience. I can it in water, then I can spice it up however I want when I heat it up. Because it's just the 2 of us now, I can it in pint jars.

I'm not a food snob either, but I was amazed when I found out the taste difference between freshly ground pepper & the stale stuff on my spice shelf. I can do *some,* but if I go overboard (which is very easy for me), I tend to pack on the pounds. I usually have butter and cream or half and half in the house, but I've learned from more than one period of time that I have to go easy on sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. They're low carb, but they don't do me any favors. ;-)Tuit Nutritionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708859914305178756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4833628955058077617.post-50581797293091251962016-07-25T19:30:38.341-04:002016-07-25T19:30:38.341-04:00This is an excellent list! The only things I can think of off the top of my head that aren't on your list, but are staples for my crew, are sour cream, greek yogurt, and cream cheese. (can you tell we like our dairy? :-) I also keep unsweetened coconut in the pantry and berries in the freezer (I know some people wouldn't eat them, but 1/4 cup goes a long way in flavoring and sweetening a smoothie (speaking of smoothies - my 11 yr old is making himself one for a snack as I type).
(Your pasta picture totally made me laugh)
~ Tracythe mommahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06442659609532682275noreply@blogger.com
